As climate change emerges as a pivotal issue for voters in the upcoming election, we invite you to join a discussion at The Century with the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Claire Coutinho. In this talk, Claire will explore her governmental role and outline the strategies aimed at achieving the UK’s Net Zero targets.
Claire Coutinho, who has been the Conservative MP for East Surrey since December 2019, was appointed to her current cabinet position in August 2023. Her prior governmental roles include Minister for Children, Families and Wellbeing at the Department for Education and Minister for Disabled People at the Department for Work and Pensions.
Before entering politics, Claire worked at Merrill Lynch and later shifted her focus to social justice policy, including a stint at the Centre for Social Justice. She also served as a Special Adviser within the government, notably to Rishi Sunak when he was the Chief Secretary to the Treasury. Claire holds a master’s degree in Maths and Philosophy from Oxford University. Join us to gain insight into her journey and the government’s plans to navigate the challenges of climate change.
