Doc’n Roll Film Festival’s 12th London edition returns to the Century Club with an exclusive showcase of premiere short films with directors Q&A. THIS MUST BE THE SCENE dives into the sound and fury of alternative music culture. From Yello’s unforgettable Oh Yeah to Detroit’s indie rock boom, Aki Nawaz’s punk defiance, and London’s ongoing rock ’n’ roll fight, these films capture the passion, politics and raw energy that keep scenes alive.

OH YEAH!

Nick Canfield| US| 2025| 17 min

The Swiss duo Yello created Oh Yeah, one of the most iconic songs of the 1980s. Made famous by Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, it epitomises American pop culture while showcasing Yello’s 45-year avant-garde career. This film explores its legacy and the unique artists behind it.

IS THAT THERE IS?

Kelli Miller | US| 2025| 30 min

At the millennium’s turn, Detroit’s indie rock exploded with The White Stripes and more gaining acclaim. Yet beneath the headlines, countless underground voices shaped the scene. This film revisits that overlooked era, exploring the fine line between hype, history and creative reality.

MORE PUNK THAN PUNK

Azeem Rajulawalla| UK| 2025| 24 min

Since the 1970s, Aki Nawaz has wrestled with his place in the world as an artist, a Pakistani and a punk. In 2006, he channels these frustrations into his most controversial album to date.

ROCK’N ROLL AIN’T DEAD WHILE WE ARE LIVING

Milena Starkova| UK| 2025| 12 min

A journey into modern London’s rock ‘n’ roll scene, featuring Laurie Wright and his band, exploring the genre’s legacy, its cultural roots, and its fight for relevance in today’s mainstream

I'm writing this on behalf of Artists for Gaza. We did not consent for this listing. The information is outdated and the ticket link is not going to the right platform. Our ticket sale is £35 and not £50 so please go to our website www.artistsforgaza.org.uk to get your cheaper ticket. We have contacted Design My Night to flag this.

While the tour by Dr Green was very well presented and interesting, the little scenes in between were incredibly poorly planned and rehearsed, to comical effect, but below expectations at this price point. We were also expecting more than one small cup of hot chocolate halfway through the freezing cold tour, as the ticket cost of £35 is definitely on the high side for a packed group like this. We still enjoyed the tour itself, but expected a lot more.
